The Place Names Committee for the Northern Territory is established under section 5 of the Place Names Act, to make recommendations to the Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics for the naming of a place (place name) within the Territory.
Through Place Names Online, deceased individuals can be nominated for commemoration by completing the required (Request for Commemoration) or specific places can be proposed for naming (Request to Name a Place) in the Territory. The nominations and proposals will need to be considered by the Place Names Committee to be suitable for commemoration in Northern Territory Nomenclature at the quarterly Committee meetings.
Research and administrative support for the Committee is provided by the Place Names Unit, Office of Surveyor-General, within the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics.
